Joomla 1.0 end of life statement.
November 25th, 2008This wont be news to people who follow Joomla or keep in touch with its development, but Joomla 1.0 has been officially given an end of life. You can read the official statement that comes from the Community site on Joomla here. Im somewhat relieved to hear this given that maintaining packages for both Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.0 is time consuming to say the least and with the thought of Joomla 1.6 around the corner its a little nerve racking.
A quick check of the download logs on Joomla Bamboo suggest that there is still quite a demand for Joomla 1.0 (the download ratio is something like 4:1 to Joomla 1.5). I imagine there will be quite a few sites that wont make the leap to J1.5 but may want to keep their site fresh and redesign with a new joomla skin - so there will still be a demographic who will require a Joomla 1.0 native template. My thought is that once the ratio gets down to 8:1 or even 10:1 at that point we may well stop producing templates for Joomla 1.0 … but until that time we will continue to support the framework.
