Mars Edit for Mac OSX
Posted on October 15th, 2008 by Anthony Olsen
Well it seems that this is the week I discover tools for posting to wordpress. Earlier this week I mentioned the wordpress iphone app, then scribefire and now Im going to talk about Mars Edit.
On first glance it looks incredibly easy to use. I started writing this post only seconds after installing it here. Setting up Mars Edit to access wordpress is really very simple. Type the url, click auto detect for the blog api url and enter your admin login details.
Im not sure that Ill necessary convert to using Mars Edit as ScribeFire seems to do everything Mars Edit does - just in a bigger window - but it might grow on me and I might consider forking out the $29 USD to register my copy.
Down River Website
Posted on October 15th, 2008 by Anthony Olsen
This is a somewhat belated note about the launch of the Down River website. The site is for the Down River: The Wilcannia Mob Story book that was launched earlier this year.
The book traces the story of the Wilcannia Mob and the production of some homegrown Australian Hip Hop tracks with the help of Queensland based Hip Hop artist and producer Morganics. The book itself is a stunningly designed and crafted publication put together by Boccalatte Design with the photography of Mick Angus and Melinda Collie Holmes. You can get a feel for the book by visiting the website and hear some music from the Wilcannia Mob on the Listen Up page.
From a design sense we are really happy with the way the site works. It really captures the essence of the book, featuring a lot of elements from the book (the main site background is lifted from the book cover), and yet the overall aesthetic is clean and minimal.

This is a really handy article for the css challenged and experts alike. Some really nifty ways to fine tune cross browser compatibility for your designs as well as reducing your overall markup. Some of the fixes include the perennial box model hack, the IE double margin float bug, minimum height for internet explorer 6, centering a block element and more … Check it out.
Scribefire makes posting to your blog a breeze.

I know I posted about how refreshing the wordpress interface is to use compared to Joomla’s a few months ago - but this week Ive started using a firefox addon that is simply awesome. As you can see in the image above the ScribeFire widget sits in the bottom toolbar area of firefox and allows you to add and edit blog posts in a flash and on the fly. You can set all of the parameters you need to including tags and categories, publish to pages or posts, set pings and trackbacks as well. The thing I love about it is that you can preview the livesite in the same window - no need to switch between tabs or login to the wordpress admin. As far as pure blogging goes this is an absolute must have.

I posted about this blog a month or so ago on the Joomla Bamboo blog, but think its worth posting here. The Iso50 blog has quickly become one of the sites I consume daily. Its updated almost everyday and sometimes more often The music they post is superb and the retro design focus is really interesting. Check it out.
