Smushit - Online Image Optimiser
Posted on November 27th, 2008 by Anthony Olsen
Smushit operates like an online png crush or web image optimiser. The premise is pretty simple - upload an image (or a zip of images) and Smushit will do its best to reduce the size of the image.
I use the image export option in Fireworks when exporting images for our templates and so the images are already pretty lean, but Smushit still manages to get in and remove some of the file size. On a well optimised file already the saving might be minimal but this may well be a useful tool to use when optimising images for the web if you dont already have a good image crusher on your desktop or you want to shave just that little bit more off the size of your image files.

Joomla 1.0 end of life statement
Posted on November 25th, 2008 by Anthony Olsen
This wont be news to people who follow Joomla or keep in touch with its development, but Joomla 1.0 has been officially given an end of life. You can read the official statement that comes from the Community site on Joomla here. Im somewhat relieved to hear this given that maintaining packages for both Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.0 is time consuming to say the least and with the thought of Joomla 1.6 around the corner its a little nerve racking.
A quick check of the download logs on Joomla Bamboo suggest that there is still quite a demand for Joomla 1.0 (the download ratio is something like 4:1 to Joomla 1.5). I imagine there will be quite a few sites that wont make the leap to J1.5 but may want to keep their site fresh and redesign with a new joomla skin - so there will still be a demographic who will require a Joomla 1.0 native template. My thought is that once the ratio gets down to 8:1 or even 10:1 at that point we may well stop producing templates for Joomla 1.0 … but until that time we will continue to support the framework.

Early last month I post about the imminent launch of the Jacka Lawyers website and Im happy to announce that Phase one of the site development came into action a few weeks ago.
Phase two will include the implementation of some nifty forms and a very smooth client area to facilitate the relationship between Tim and his staff and their clients. Stay tuned for more updates.
